Academic Internships

The internship option in London is a combination of practical, hands-on experience and academic course work. Interns carry a reduced academic load during our longer term-time programmes while also spending approximately 16 hours per week in an internship placement.

We use a third party internship coordinator Kate Duffy to source internships and place suitable students. And Mary, in her role as Internship Seminar tutor, works closely with Kate and the interns themselves to ensure they get the most out of their experience (cross-cultural agility, career-ready competencies, marketing international experience in job interviews, improving resumes, discussing British office culture).

Students must arrange to receive academic credit for their internship with a faculty member on their home campus well in advance of the programme. Be aware that different home institutions have different requirements, but students generally receive between 2 and 5 credits. If in doubt, drop us a line and we can help make sense of it.

GEO in London is a Registered Sponsor, and will provide committed students with Confirmation of Acceptance for Study (CAS) in order for them to apply for a Visa, which legally allows them to embark on an internship. (Standard students who are not undertaking an internship or studying with us for more than a semester do not need a pre-arranged Visa.)
